| Candles have been around for a long, long time and are now more popular than ever! While candles were used in the past as a source of light, they are now used as a source of home decor, fragrance and just to set a pleasant relaxing mood. Many people use candles every day as a way to pamper themselves and add a special touch to their homes.
Is there a certain length of time a candle should be burned? Yes. The maximum burning time for a candle, at one setting, should be no more than one hour for each inch of its diameter, example: A 4 inch wide jar candle should be burned for 4 hours at a time. My candle has been burning for a few hours and there is this giant blob at the top of the wick. What did I do wrong? The "blob" is caused by carbon deposits and is commonly known as a mushroom. A mushroom is a gentle reminder that you need to trim your wick. Extinguish the flame and let the candle cool. Trim the wick to 1/4" and relight. Certain types of wicks are more prone to developing mushrooms, zinc in particular. What is a Melt Pool ? The melt pool refers to the size of the pool of melted wax that forms around the wick of a burning candle. Do you use lead wicks in your candles? No, Lead wicks were taken off the market years ago. They were found to put out high levels of lead when burned in the home. Safety is our first priority and we would not knowingly endanger anyone. Do you test your candles before selling them?
